People like us

Tommy : People like us, ain’t got no family. They ain’t no genius an’ have no money an’ no destiny. They work here as laborers day in an’ day out, that ain’t gonna gain any wealth or future in anytime. They ain’t the brightest people awound, they ain’t the best-lookin’ ones. Their faces bury wit’ smudgin’ made of oil wit’ dirt wit’ dust, that ain’t gonna go till they die. There got nobody, no one to appreciate what we do, what we give an’ what we are.

Pete : (Whistle softly) But, man, O, man. We will be different, ain’t we?

Tommy : Aye, man. Aye… We could if we would. No more working our bones here in this dump. No more bein’ lookin’ down at. No more this damn nonsense from this dry up sucking labor! Toilin’ day and night, an’ for what?

Pete : For nothin’ I tell ya. Nothin!

Tommy : But Pete, we are diffewent, ain’t we? We are diffewent.

Pete : Aye! We are! Tell me again like you did! Tell Tommy, tell!

Tommy : Awight, here we go. Listen 'ere Pete. And keep ear’ carefully. We ain’t like them anymore. We got a hope, a hope that gives us a future. A hope that get us outta here. A hope that is so costly, that we ain’t gonna lose it…

Pete cutting Tommy : Yes! Yes! A future! Ain’t gonna lose it! Coz, I got you lookin’ out for me, and you got me lookin’ outa for you! We have each other!

Tommy smiling at Pete : You got it rite man, we got each other. Our hope grow outa our workin’ together to get outta here. We toil evewyday 12 hours to get money outta here. We will, Pete. We will. If we continue belivin’ like what Mama Georgie says, we will one day get what we believe in.

Pete : Aye, aye! We will get our own land! We will grow our own fats, an’ take no more orderings from them. No more toilin’ till our backs break, no more mixing our tears with sweats. No more torture from this animals!

Tommy : No more sufferin’, no more bein’ laughed at, no more bein’ throw stones at. We will get outta here one day, Pete. I’m tellin’ ya. We will.

Pete : Aye! An’ that’s cuz we believe we will!

Tommy : An’ that’s cuz we believe we will. We believe we will...

Pete : An' we will.
